As a Data Engineer on the technical team, you will be tasked with providing technical solutions to business problems, ETL/ELT and reviewing junior team members outputs. The ideal candidate will have good knowledge with of Data Engineering skills including developing and optimising stored procedures, developing ETL/ELT processes with Azure Data Factory (ADF).

 

 

 

So, what will your day-to-day look like?

 

As a Data Engineer, you will need to:

  • Using best practice and experience to create ETL/ELT processes using ADF/SQL and Azure Databricks
  • Being responsible for creating or guiding the low-level design of data solutions, taking high level solutions, and translating them into workable designs and work packages to deliver themselves or in other members of the
    team.
  • Monitoring the quality of the overall data platform(s), ensuring that data ETL and database solutions are implemented effectively from a re-use and performance optimisation perspective.
  • Developing high complexity, secure, governed, high quality, efficient data ETL from a variety of on and off premise, internal and external data sources.
  • Designing and building of data observability and data quality by design into all Data ETL, promoting self-testing pipelines that proactively identify processing issues or discrepancies.
  • Checking junior team members outputs, feeding back any issues
  • Able to explain complex topics to junior members of the team
  • Coaching junior members of the team around Data Engineering and the Data Development Lifecycle
  • Taking accountability for peer review, testing and deployment of junior team members’ code

 

 

Does this sound like you?

 

Essential

  • 3 years’ experience designing and deploying ETL/ELT solutions with Azure
    Data Factory (ADF)
  • 3 years’ experience with T-SQL, including Functions, CTEs, complex joins and
    query optimisation
  • 1 years’ experience of Azure Databricks/notebooks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong data quality and governance skills
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal and collaboration skills with colleagues and clients.
  • Can translate technical subjects to non-technical people
  • Experience coaching junior data engineers
  • Experience checking junior data engineer’s outputs

 

Desirable

  • Azure Data Lake / BLOB storage file structures
  •  SSIS, some experience would be beneficial to migrate away from legacy packages
  • SSRS and/or PowerBi

 

 

 

The Application Timeline

  • A first stage video call with the internal talent acquisition team (15 minutes)
  • A second stage competency interview with the hiring manager (60 minutes)

  • This role is based at our Blackpool or Manchester office. Travel may be required between these locations based on business requirements.
